The Science Behind How It Works

Microbes are single cells that can live in greater communities called biofilms. The cell membrane of microbe forms a protective shield against the environment. Protectus Ultimate and Viridis™ deactivate these pathogens by penetrating and destroying these biofilms. This eliminates the cells and causes the organisms to leak out. This process kills the microbes and leaves them unable to reproduce.

The unique combination of active ingredients in Protectus Ultimate and Viridis™ cause the cell membranes of bacteria and viruses to break up. The organic acids disrupt cell regulation in the pathogens, while the solvents and preservatives increase the permeability of the cell membrane. The surfactants further destabilise the cell membrane.

Through this unique process – which we term Residual Barrier Technology – Ultimate and Viridis™ are able to have high antimicrobial activity. After application to surfaces, our products crystallises and forms a protective barrier known as micelles. These micelles are made up of clusters of surfactants.

Even after the disinfectant dries, Protectus Viridis™ & Ultimate continue to eliminate pathogens. This barrier acts like an invisible shield with spikes that prevent pathogens from multiplying. It can remain intact for up to 24 hours in mild abrasion environments.


Unique Formulation

Our Protectus Viridis™ range has a unique formulation including active ingredients, each selected for their biocidal properties or ability to deactivate pathogens. It is made up of ingredients, all of which are biodegradable, including lactic acid and 2-phenoxyethanol.

Together, these ingredients work synergistically to kill bacteria, viruses and yeasts within a short contact time period. Protectus Ultimate and Viridis™ products have been tested to have 99.999% efficacy in disinfecting surfaces. Once it has dried, it continues to safe-guard surfaces from microbes that land on the surface.

In our hand disinfectants, Viridis™ also contains organic fungal-sourced chitosans which smoothen and moisturise the skin.

RBT solutions have undergone a variety of tests at some of the world’s leading independent laboratories including Campden BRI, BluTest and Brill + Steinman. Results have demonstrated that Protectus meets bacteria, virus and fungi tests against 5 EN standards for a broad spectrum of organisms.
